Is water leaking from your AC unit?

An air conditioner leaking water can be a sign of several underlying issues.

We understand that it can be quite frustrating when you notice water pooling around your AC unit. An air conditioner leaking water is a common problem, and while it may not always be a cause for alarm, it should not be ignored. A leak can be caused by:

Condensation

During the cooling process, moisture from the warm air is condensed into water, which is supposed to be drained away. If the drainage system is clogged or not functioning correctly, the water may accumulate inside the unit and eventually leak out.

Solution: Ensure that the condensate drain line is clear and unblocked. Regularly clean it and remove any debris that might be obstructing the flow of water.

Damaged or Disconnected Drain Pan and Line

The drain pan, located under the evaporator coil, is responsible for collecting the condensed water and channeling it towards the drain line. The drain line, on the other hand, efficiently carries water that’s collected in the drain pan. These two can easily become clogged with dirt and debris if your AC’s air filter isn’t changed often.

Solution: If your drain line is clogged, a technician can clear the blockage and inspect both the pan and drain line to locate and resolve the leak.

Dirty or Clogged Filters

Over time, air filters can become clogged with dirt and debris, reducing the airflow through the system. When airflow is restricted, the evaporator coil can get too cold, leading to ice buildup. When the ice melts, it can result in water leakage.

Solution: Change or clean your air filters regularly to ensure proper airflow and prevent the formation of ice.
